Our volunteers do incredible work that helps us deliver the best possible service for people experiencing social exclusion.

From local events like the Big Sleep-Out, to our charity shops and Bike Workshops, to our Outreach Teams engaging with rough sleepers across the South West, volunteers can be found supporting our work everywhere we operate.
Whether you’re looking to learn new skills, keep busy, give something back or share your knowledge and abilities we are immensely grateful for every offer of volunteering. It’s not just about donating your time. It’s about getting involved and showing your support to vulnerable or at-risk people, and it’s about going the extra mile to give them our best rather than making do.

Volunteer Activities Support – Supporting Adults with Autism
Julian House is a charity dedicated to making a difference to the lives of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in society. We run several projects and every year we help thousands of people out of homelessness, into employment, away from domestic abuse, and more.
Job Role: Volunteer Activities Support – Supporting Adults with Autism
Hours: 3-4 hours per week
Location: Bath
The Role:
We are actively recruiting for someone to volunteer a few hours a week at our central Bath property assisting the Service Manager and Support Worker in taking the clients out on activities/day trips both in and out of the property.
Responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with the Service Manager to tailor activities to the interests and abilities of participants both inside and outside the property. Ideas and Research about what activities to do would also be welcomed.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during activities.
- Create a welcoming and supportive environment for all participants.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Creative and energetic approach to designing and leading activities.
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude
- Previous experience of working with ASD would be beneficial.

Dorset Outreach Volunteer

We’re currently looking for passionate and committed volunteers to join us in making a real difference.
Job Role: Outreach Volunteer
Location: Weymouth, Dorset
Hours: Flexible, this can range from a couple of hours a month to a couple of hours per week
Outreach sessions typically run seven days a week, starting at 6:00 AM.
Overview of the Role
As an Outreach Volunteer, you’ll be part of a dedicated team working directly with individuals experiencing street homelessness. Your role will involve supporting our outreach workers during early morning shifts, helping to engage with people sleeping rough and connecting them with vital services.
You’ll assist in identifying individuals in need, gathering key information, and helping to ensure no one is overlooked. This is a dynamic, on-the-ground role that requires empathy, resilience, and a genuine desire to help others. You’ll also gain valuable insight into how multi-agency partnerships work together to provide holistic, person-centred support.
Whether it’s offering a warm conversation, helping with referrals, or simply being a consistent and caring presence, your contribution will be a crucial part of someone’s journey toward safety and stability.
Please note: To volunteer in our outreach team, you must be 18 years or older and will be required to complete an Enhanced DBS check as part of the onboarding process.

Exeter Outreach Volunteer

Job Role: Outreach Volunteer
Location: Exeter
Hours: Flexible, this can range from a couple of hours a month to a couple of hours per week
Outreach sessions typically run seven days a week, starting at 6:00 AM and finishing around 9:00 AM.
The Role:
Are you passionate about making a real difference in your community? As an Outreach Volunteer, you’ll play a vital role in supporting some of the most vulnerable individuals in Exeter—those experiencing street homelessness.
Working alongside our dedicated Rough Sleeper Prevention Workers, you’ll head out on early morning or evening routes through the city, helping to identify and engage with people sleeping rough. You’ll be paired with a member of staff and follow a planned route, offering a friendly face, a listening ear, and practical support.
This is a hands-on role that involves walking several miles in all weather conditions—but your presence can be the first step in someone’s journey off the streets. Your support helps ensure our outreach runs smoothly and that no one is left behind.

Cooking volunteer

Job Role: Cooking Volunteer
Location: Manvers Street Hostel, Central Bath
Available Shifts: Monday to Sunday Join us for one or more of the following shift options: • Lunchtime Shift – starting from 11:30 AM • Evening Shift – starting from 5:30 PM
Whether you can help out during the day or in the evening, your support makes a real difference!
The Role:
Are you passionate about food and want to make a meaningful difference in your community? Join us as a Cooking Volunteer at our Manvers Street Hostel, where we provide 24-hour support to individuals with a history of homelessness.
In this role, you’ll be preparing and cooking hearty meals for our residents, helping to bring comfort, routine, and nourishment to their day. You’ll also be responsible for cleaning up as you go and ensuring the kitchen is left tidy afterwards.
Please note: This role is a solo one, so you’ll need to feel confident working independently in the kitchen — but don’t worry, support is always nearby if you need it!

Hub Volunteer – English Conversation Classes

Role: Hub Volunteer – English Conversation Classes
Hours: 2 hours - ideally on a Friday.Location: Kingswood, Bristol
The RoleWe’re seeking enthusiastic volunteers to lead English Conversation Classes within our Refugee Resettlement Scheme. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference by helping refugees build confidence in speaking English and supporting their integration into the community!
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate casual conversations and activities to help improve participants' spoken English.
- Encourage cultural exchange and foster mutual understanding.
- Support language skill development through practical conversation practice.
- Provide guidance on everyday communication, from small talk to essential daily interactions.
What We’re Looking For:
- Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills.
- A passion for supporting refugees and promoting inclusivity.

Garden Volunteer

Job Role: Garden Volunteer
Hours: Flexible
Location: Bath
The Role: As a Garden Volunteer, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the garden at our property, providing a peaceful environment for our residents. This is an opportunity to use your skills and creativity to contribute to the healing and well-being of our clients at Julian House.
Responsibilities include:
- Planting, weeding, pruning, and general garden maintenance.
- Creating a welcoming, therapeutic outdoor space for residents to enjoy.
- Collaborating with staff and other volunteers to ensure the garden meets the needs of the property.
- Supporting the team in developing small garden projects, such as vegetable plots or sensory gardens.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- A passion for gardening and the outdoors.
- Basic gardening knowledge and skills (no professional experience required).
- Empathy, understanding, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- While not essential, it can be helpful to have some understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and to appreciate that clients may not always be able to engage.
